Background:
The U.S. Postal Service will issue a stamp series depicting five classic railroad stations in 2023. These include the Cincinnati Union Terminal, the Victorian in Point of Rocks, Maryland, the Main Street Station in Richmond, Virginia, the Santa Fe Garage in San Bernardino, California, and the Tamaqua Station in Pennsylvania. All stations except Tamaqua are currently in operation. In selecting these stations, the U.S. Postal Service looked for architectural and geographic diversity and made sure to include some smaller towns and stations. In addition, the stations are historically significant and are on the National Register of Historic Places. Three of the stations are located in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions, but the Postal Service has maintained a variety of styles and sizes of stations.
